ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Henry Thoby Prinsep (1793–1878) was an English official and Indian historian. Born in Essex, he joined the East India College, arriving in Calcutta in 1809. Serving in various roles, including Persian secretary, he left India in 1843. Returning to London, he delved into politics and contested elections. Prinsep also became a director of the East India Company. In the Council of India, he opposed certain post-1857 measures. Settling at Little Holland House, he fostered connections with artists. Prinsep, author of historical and geopolitical works, died in 1878, leaving a diverse legacy in Indian administration, politics, and intellectual pursuits.
